Information and Forms for Current Clients

We are standing with you every step of the way.

The journey to securing your Social Security Disability benefits requires patience, precision, and time. While the government moves at its own pace, our commitment to your case never slows down.

We built this secure portal specifically for our active clients. Think of this page as your 24/7 digital assistant. Instead of waiting on hold or wondering about the status of your claim, you can use this hub to instantly securely upload documents, update our legal team on your medical treatments, and track how your case moves through the system.

Our goal is to take the administrative stress off your shoulders so you can focus on your health.

What would you like to do today?

A Quick Reminder from Lance: “If you logged into SSA.gov today and noticed your progress bar hasn’t moved in months, please do not panic. The ‘Medical Review’ stage is notoriously slow. Scroll down to our Case Roadmap below to see exactly how the government’s steps translate to the active work our firm is doing behind the scenes.”

Setting Up your Online SSA Account

Tracking your disability claim is easier when you go digital. We encourage all clients to establish a personal my Social Security account directly with the government.

Through this secure portal, you can check the real-time status of your application or appeal, download your official earnings history, and manage your information.

Important Update: To log in, the SSA now requires a verified Login.gov or ID.me account. If you do not have one, the registration process will help you create a secure login. Please have your Social Security Number and a valid email address ready.

Security Reminder: Please protect your login information. Under federal guidelines, nobody can create or access an online account on your behalf, including your legal team.

What Does Your Online SSA Status Mean?

When you log into your my Social Security account, you will see a progress bar tracking 5 distinct steps. Because the government uses different terms than our law office, here is a simple guide to translating what the SSA is actually doing at each step:

  • Step 1 of 5: Reviewing Your Application
What it means:The SSA has officially received your paperwork. They are verifying basic technical rules, such as making sure you aren’t currently working over the allowed limits.
  • Step 2 of 5: Medical Review Begins
What it means:Your file has been sent to the state agency (Disability Determination Services, or DDS). An internal examiner is assigned to your case and is beginning to look at your medical files.
  • Step 3 of 5: The Deep Medical Review (Where cases spend the most time)
What it means:Do not panic if your case sits here for months. This is completely normal. During this phase, the medical examiner is ordering your health records, evaluating your doctors’ notes, and deciding if your conditions meet the strict legal definitions of disability.
  • Step 4 of 5: Quality Assurance & Review
What it means:The medical review is wrapping up. The file is sent back to your local Social Security field office to perform a final administrative double-check on non-medical rules.
  • Step 5 of 5: Decision Made
What it means:A final decision has officially been reached. The SSA will generate a formal letter and send it to the mail. Note: The online portal usually will not reveal whether you were approved or denied—it will simply state a decision was made. You will have to wait for the physical letter to arrive, or call our office to see if it hit our electronic system yet.

Frequently Asked Questions
The "What Do I Do If..."
I just received a letter or a thick packet from the Social Security Administration (SSA). What should I do?

Do not panic, but do not ignore it. Call our office for next steps. Once we review it, your case manager will contact you if any action is required on your part.

I have a new doctor, a new diagnosis, or an upcoming surgery. Do I need to tell you?

Yes, absolutely. Medical evidence wins disability cases. Please use our Report a Medical Update form to give us the doctor’s name, facility, and the date of your visit. You do not need to order the records yourself; our team will pull them at the strategically right time.

My phone number, email, or physical address changed. Who do I notify?

Please fill out our brief contact update form here. It is critical that we have your current information so we can reach you instantly regarding time-sensitive SSA deadlines.

Money & Work
Can I work part-time while my disability case is pending?

This is a very sensitive issue that can impact your case. Social Security has strict monthly earnings limits (known as Substantial Gainful Activity, or SGA). Before you accept any job, return to work, or start a side hustle, please schedule a brief call with your attorney to discuss how it might affect your claim.

I am facing severe financial hardship (eviction, foreclosure, utility shut-off). Can we speed up my case?

The SSA is notoriously slow, but in extreme circumstances, we can file a “Dire Need Request” to try and expedite your hearing. If you receive an official eviction or foreclosure notice, upload a copy to us immediately so we can evaluate if your case qualifies.

When and how do I pay my attorney fees?

As we agreed at the start of your case, we work on a contingency fee basis. This means we only get paid if we win your case. The SSA typically pays our fee directly out of your past-due backpay benefits, so you don’t have to worry about paying us out of pocket.

The Waiting Game & Timeline
Why haven’t I heard from your office in a few weeks? Is my case at a standstill?

Rest assured, no news is normal news in the disability process. The SSA routinely takes several months to process paperwork or schedule hearings. While we wait on them, our team is working behind the scenes monitoring deadlines and tracking your medical updates. If the SSA requests anything new, we will contact you immediately.

Preparing for the Hearing
Do I have to go to a courtroom for my hearing? What will it be like?

At Magnolia Disability, most of our disability hearings are currently conducted via telephone. The telephone hearing is held before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), it is non-adversarial hearing: there is no opposing attorney, there is no jury, and it is not like a dramatic TV trial. Although it is very informal, you will be expected to take an oath that your testimony is true. Your attorney will meet with you well in advance to ensure you understand what to expect and feel confident.

What should I wear to my video or in-person hearing?

Most hearings are conducted via telephone. It is recommended you wear comfortable clothes. Even if your hearing is in-person at the hearing office or via live video feed, you do not need to buy a suit. We recommend dressing in clean, comfortable, casual attire (like a polo shirt or a nice blouse and jeans/slacks). The most important thing is that you look respectful and are comfortable sitting through the proceedings.
